About the IAPT

About Us

The Irish Association of Physical Therapists (IAPT) was set up in 1991 and continues to represent their members who practice Physical Therapy across Ireland today.

IAPT members are also required to be members of CORU, the statutory body that regulates Health & Social Care Professionals in Ireland. The role of CORU is to “protect the public by promoting high standards of professional conduct, education, training and competence through statutory registration of health and social care professionals”. It is important to note that only those who are members of both IAPT and the CORU Physiotherapists Registration board can use the title of ‘Physical Therapist’ or ‘Physiotherapist’ in Ireland.

IAPT works in close collaboration with CORU to ensure that our members:

  • Retain their active membership;
  • Adhere to both the IAPT and CORU Code of Conduct Physiotherapists.

  • Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) with Specialists within the healthcare field to ensure that a high quality and up to date level of service is provided

This level of professional regulation provides peace of mind for members of the public looking for a Physical Therapist/Physiotherapist. You can be assured that our members have met the required level of education and standard to provide a safe and appropriate service.
