About IAPT

The Irish Association of Physical Therapists was established in 1991. The consititution, adopted by the association, sets out its aims and objectives. Under the constitution the committee is democratically elected by its members and is empowered on behalf of its members to carry out the associations business with a view to attaining such aims and objectives.


Aims & Objectives

  • To promote and participate fully in the development of Physical Therapy in Ireland.
  • To procure official recognition for the members of the association.
  • To establish and maintain the highest standards of professional practice.
  • To inform and protect members of the public seeking treatment.
  • To enforce a code of professional conduct for its members.
  • To regulate and validate
    • A) The qualifications of therapists applying for membership of the association.
    • B) Courses of studies which lead to qualification.
  • To promote ongoing education for the members of the association.
  • To develop working relationships with professional bodies.
  • To act as an advisory body to members of the association.
